Safety is an everyday part of our lives
We lept at the chance to talk with John Peabody, Vice President of Safety Solution Sales at Omron Scientific Technologies, Inc., and learn how his work plays an important role in making the world’s workforce safer. It didn’t take long for John to rock us with a startling statistic. According to Omron STI’s data, 93% of all equipment currently in use is either not guarded or more commonly, is not guarded correctly. That means only 7% of the equipment used has been properly evaluated and setup for safety. We found this statistic to be almost beyond belief, and also a core driver of Omron STI’s growth. After all, they’re in the machine safety business!
Trust the professionals to do it right
Throughout today’s interview, John stressed the importance of having a proper assessment performed on your equipment. The reason is straightforward. Spending a little more on the front side of installation can end up saving a ton of money and time down the road. Omron STI is able to not only work closely with it’s customers to gain a proper understanding of their needs prior to equipment installation, but is also able to modify the assessment as use or location of that equipment changes throughout its lifespan.
By providing clients with professional drawings of equipment with installed safety gear, Omron has the ability to foresee a multitude of issues. This provides great cost savings to its clients. Nothing is more important than safety in the workplace. A company’s most valuable assets are its people and Omron STI clients are proud to say they are working day and night to make sure those assets remain safe.
Although our conversation really just scratched the surface, it most certainly provides an outstanding “Machine Safety 101″ introduction. If you have anything to do with buying, planning for, installing, maintaining or operating machines, you need the listen to this one!
